A Horse-Riding Adventure around the Vineyards of Bordeaux

Adventure

A Horse-Riding Adventure around the Vineyards of Bordeaux A day of adventure and indulgence in the French countryside awaits you on a special “Ride the Vineyards” trip through the magnificent wine region of Entre-Deux-Mers in Bordeaux. The area is known for its Bordeaux Supérieur red wines, Bordeaux and Entre-Deux-Mers dry white wines, as well as rosé and clairet wines.

Morning

Saddle up as the ride begins by heading towards the village of Rauzan in the Engranne valley. Continue on an old Roman road towards Saint-Emilion and stop at an old open-air limestone quarry. Riding along the top of a picturesque plateau through vineyards, reach Rauzan by mid-morning where you’ll discover a historic local cemetery with its beautiful dry stone wall and stop to take in the view of a 14th century medieval castle tower. The tour then heads through a small forest on the outskirts of Rauzan before arriving at Château Grand-Homme in Blasimon for lunch.

Afternoon

After enjoying a traditional lunch prepared by Mme. Bertrand using home-grown produce, you’ll have the opportunity to taste several wines produced at the Château. Back on your horse, ride in a northerly direction through the vineyards of Saint Vincent de Pertignas and Mérignas. Among the vines, you will see aeration chimneys used to harvest mushrooms that cover several square miles under the vineyards.

Visit the village of Saint-Vincent de Pertignas with its splendid historic church and the next stop is at Château Bonhoste for more wine tastings and water for horses. The tour leaders encourage you to try the wines, but to drink in moderation. Return to Grange de Lourme via the Villesèque valley, passing historic country houses and bountiful vineyards en route.
