A Day of Gourmet Indulgence in Tours

Gourmet

A Day of Gourmet Indulgence in Tours The cuisine of the Loire Valley is known for its use of fresh local produce and exceptional pairing with Loire wines. The city of Tours offers visitors a wide selection of what are termed restaurants gastronomique with the finest meats, seafood, vegetables and fruit transformed into culinary works of art by masterful chefs.

Lunch

It’s not often that you find one of the city’s best restaurants near its train station, but in the case of Tours, L’Odeon is located a mere 50 feet away from Saint-Pierre-des-Corps station. Enjoy a sumptuous three course meal without putting a dint in your wallet. Start with Mussels stuffed with garlic butter, followed by Guinea fowl with bacon and Bourgeuil or perhaps calf’s liver in balsamic vinaigrette. Of course all of this fine food needs to be washed down with a glass or two of Loire’s best, like a fragrant Sauvignon Blanc wine from Sancerre. Finish your meal with an upside down rhubarb tart or a traditional dark chocolate mousse.

Dinner

Considered one of the top dining establishments in Tours, chef Jean Bardet’s Restaurant at Château Belmont, just north of the city center, offers an exciting menu of dishes created from local Loire produce. The two-Michelin-star chef’s motto is that “Gastronomy is the orchestration of wine, alcohol, delicacies and cigars,” and you can discover his artisinal style of cooking in an intimate 19th century setting, serving specialties including Wild poached fish in coconut milk and Granny-Smith sauce or roasted Atlantic blue lobster. Leave room for the delicious desserts like a traditional Grand-Marnier soufflé, or the Grand Dessert ''Fascination'' -- four petit tastings of different desserts.

After dinner, spend the night in the Château, in one of the luxuriously appointed guest rooms, or perhaps splurge on the grander Napoléon III suite.
