Updating the Classics with a Scottish Twist

Shopping

Updating the Classics with a Scottish Twist The city’s shopping offerings may not be as diverse as what you’ll find in London or as daring as Glasgow with its choices, but that’s slowly changing, as recent additions complement the classics well, with good selections along George and Princes Streets.

Read on for suggested activities...

Morning

Stroll down the Royal Mile for your compulsory dose of souvenir shops. Cross over by the North Bridge or Waverly Bridge to Princes Street, which will provide you with a taste of Scottish department stores such as the landmark Jenners (now owned by House of Fraser) and newer addition Harvey Nichols, with brands such as Jimmy Choo.

Afternoon

Stray off the Royal Mile to Corniche Boutique, a cutting-edge store where owner Nina Grant has brought intriguing pieces from all over the world to men and women for 35 years from the likes of Girbaud, Westwood, Cecile Paul and Yohji Yamamoto. Don’t leave Scotland without a visit to Geoffrey Kiltmakers, whose famous customers include Sean Connery, Mel Gibson and which stocks 200 of Scotland’s clan patterns as well as more newfangled approaches to this traditional item of clothing.

Overnight

The small, modern and stylish boutique hotel, Tigerlily, provides a respite in New Town.
